Jim Minnix is a 4th generation Scott County farmer, farming both of his Great Grandfathers homesteads in Southwest Scott County. His Great Grandfathers came to Scott County in early 1870s. Currently Jim farms 6600 acres in Scott and Wichita Counties.
Jim graduated from Scott Community High School in 1972. Attended Colby Community College and graduated in 1974. He attended Kansas State University, receiving a BS in Ag Econ in 1977, a BS in Business Finance in 1978, and a Masters of Business Administration from KSU in 1980.
Jim served our community for 26 years as a Scott County Commissioner. During that time he served as President for the Southwest Kansas Highway Officials, the Kansas Legislative Policy Group and as President for the Kansas County Commissioner Association. He served on the landfill committee, the Court House renovation committee, Scott County Economic Development committee and the Scott County Republican Party Committee as Chairman. He served on The Supreme Court Budget Advisory Council. He was a member of the Kansas Leadership Class of 2007.
Jim was a founding member of the Scott Community Foundation and served on this Board until 2011. He served on the Scott County Library Board 2008-2010 and was a 4-H Community Leader. He is a Deacon at Prairie View Church and a Kansas Master Farmer class of 2016.
Jim was elected to the Kansas House of Representatives in 2020. He serves on the House Agricultural Committee, Transportation committee and beginning in 2023, he serves as Chairman of the House Water Committee.
Jim has been married to Eilene for 32 years. They have six children and seven grandchildren, with one more on the way.
